CBD Oil Basics
I think any information about buying CBD has to start with an explanation of what CBD oil actually is. The truth is that there are quite a few misunderstandings about CBD oil, and you may have heard some of them.
What Is CBD Oil?
Let’s start with the basics. CBD oil is the abbreviation for cannabidiol oil. You might recognize the root of the word Cannabidiol – it is the same as the root of Cannabis, the Latin name for marijuana.
However, it is important to note that CBD oil may come from more than one place. Cannabidiol is simply the active ingredient in the oil.
CBD oil has not been approved for use by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). That is far from being uncommon for nutritional substances though, and it’s important to make note of it periodically, because it affects what we are allowed to say about the effects of taking CBD oil.
CBD oil is one of approximately 113 chemical components known as, "cannibinoids" that are found in marijuana and certain other plants. In other words, using CBD oil is not the same thing as using THC oil.
The assumption that CBD oil and THC oil are the same, is one of the most common misconceptions we encounter when talking to people about CBD oil. While THC oil has been accepted in a few states for recreational use, and in more places for medicinal use, CBD oil has no such constraints on it. You can buy it and take it anywhere, legally.
Where Does CBD Oil Come From?
The confusion between CBD oil and marijuana is understandable. That’s one of the reasons that when we started sourcing products for BuyCBD.net, we decided to sell CBD oil made from hemp.
The CBD oil extracted from marijuana, and the CBD oil extracted from hemp are identical at the molecular level. There are no appreciable differences between them.
However, for some people the idea of taking an oil that is derived from marijuana is unsettling. They don’t want any connection to something that they see as an illegal drug. Because of the chemical link between CBD oil and cannabis, it isn’t very surprising that buying CBD oil made from marijuana might be an issue for some people.
The primary thing you need to know about our products is that they are all sourced from hemp oil using CO2 extraction. They are all lab tested and we are very proud of the products we sell!
What’s The Difference Between CBD From Hemp And CBD From Cannabis?
As mentioned above, at molecular level, there is no difference between the CBD extracted from cannabis (marijuana) and the one that is produced from industrial hemp. Both plants belong to the same genus and species, however hemp has much lower levels of THC and therefore doesn’t fall within the same legal limitations and regulations as marijuana. Its production is not limited in a lot of areas around the world.
What Is CO2 Extraction?
CO2 extraction is a process that uses temperature and pressure to create phase changes in carbon dioxide, which is known as a tunable solvent. What that means, is that this is a method that allows for strict control of the temperature and other factors, which in turn allows for a great deal of control over the finished product – in this case, CBD oil.
The reason we choose products made via CO2 extraction is that this process results in a clean, pure, high-quality oil that is minimally processed and contains no toxic solvents. That means that the product you end up with is safe to take.
Some of the other benefits of CO2 extraction include:
■ CO2 acts as a sanitizing agent
■ CO2 extraction prolongs the shelf life of CBD oil
■ It is the safest method for extracting food and medical grade oils
We believe that the quality of what we sell matters. Many of the people who buy CBD products from us, do so because they have tried everything else – traditional medical treatments, prescription medications, and even surgery. They are desperate for a solution and they come to us looking for one.
The last thing we would want to do is sell our customers a product that we couldn’t stand behind 100%. That’s why we curate our products so carefully. We want to be sure that we offer you the best!
Speaking of our customers, it’s time to talk about why people take CBD oil.
Why Do People Take CBD Oil?
As mentioned earlier, people take CBD oil for a wide variety of reasons. The CBD oil we sell, which comes from hemp, is often touted as a remedy for various chronic and acute health problems.
The FDA Status of CBD Oil
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is responsible for testing and approving prescription drugs, and also for maintaining the quality of the United States’ food supply.
However, they have not yet approved the use of CBD oil for any medical uses. That doesn’t mean that scientists and researchers haven’t tested CBD oil, but it does constrain us somewhat in terms of what we can say about CBD oil.
Basically, the lack of FDA approval means that we cannot make specific health claims for CBD oil. We can’t promise that it will relieve your symptoms. If you would like to ask our customers how CBD has helped them, you can join our Facebook group, CBD Oil Forum.
