A Brief History of CBD: Queen Victoria and King Henry VIII…Who knew?!

Posted by

Image result for history of cbd

Contrary of popular belief, CBD has been cultivated for more than 10,000 years. Archaeologist found, Cannabis Sativa, the source plant for CBD was likely one of the first agricultural crops planted by early man.

Many different countries found creative uses for cannabis plants. Researchers have found CBD oil has been used in China for cooking since 6,000 BCE and two thousand years later hemp became a common textile for clothing. In 850, even Vikings transported hemp rope and seed to Iceland. From there its popularity soared globally—Arab countries, European countries, and more!

Years later, around 1533 King Henry VIII even fined farmers if they did not raise hemp for industrial use…ironic with all the regulations today! Less than one hundred years later the United States began cultivating hemp as well—at one point it was even illegal not to grow hemp in Virginia. With its increasing popularity, even monarch and other figures of power began using CBD. Queen Victoria used CBD-rich cannabis for menstrual cramps in the 19th century.

Just a little history to correct the common misconception that Cannabis Sativa and CBD do not have historical roots.
